TIER 3

Tier 3 Overview

Tier 3 is individualized, intensive strategies for students that need additional support.  Approximately 3-5 % of the school’s student population require Tier 3 interventions.  Students whose needs are not met by Tier 1 and Tier 2 support would be identified by school staff and collaborate with appropriate team members to make a plan for the students’ needs.  Tier 3 can address the needs of students with disabilities and students without identified disabilities as well.  When a student is in need of Tier 3 support, there should be a team of staff that are participating in the decision making and implementation of these interventions.  The members should include: an administrator, behavior specialist (i.e. special education teacher,  behavior interventionist/coach, etc).  These representatives can help give guidance and feedback on interventions/strategies to be implemented for the student. Decisions should be made based on data collected in regards to the strategies being implemented.  Functional Behavior Assessments are often used for students needing Tier 3 support in order to gather information in regards to the function of their behavior.
